Frist is retiring in '06 so the GOP will need to pick a new leader (regardless of whether it is in the majority or minority) after the midterms. Let's assume that McConnell turns it down and Santorum loses re-election. Who do you think is next in line for the spot?

I think a conservative Dem has a better shot at being the GOP leader over Specter so that's not happening.

Alexander was trying for Whip and won't get that anyway. If Santorum loses, Lott will try for it and win.

I was thinking of Kyl for the spot, too. Hopefully he's interested if he needs to step up.
