Did he plan the operation to its last detail? It's not his job. He tells the generals what to do and they do it. Had the Abbottabad raid failed, I'd have blamed Obama for invading Pakistan's sovereignty but not for the operational failure itself. The whole military-industrial complex needs to be reigned in and the generals (who as the Petraeus/Jill Kelly episode proves are part of a rather distant social elite themselves) are not exempt from this.

He's right in a sense this wasn't his raid, it was planned during Obama admin, only thing he did was to give a final go order.

Also it's funny how Trump is blamed in MSM for this soldier's death but he isn't blamed for civilians that got killed, women and children.

Obama rejected it because their wasn't enough intelligence. Mattis convinced Trump to sign off on the raid by telling him "obama wouldn't do it"

     I don't really expect the President to be sufficiently familiar with military tactics to sufficiently appraise these operational decisions. He kind of has to rely on his people to give him good advice. If they don't do that then there's a problem.
