Ironically, Ted Cruz, who wants to keep the seat open, probably would end up appointing a judge who ends up ruling like Garland anyway should he be in the White House.

They probably are stupid enough to try this.

Just like how the government shutdown was an act of massive stupidity that hurt them a lot, right?
Literally abolishing the last line of defense our constitution has is not "conservative" in any way, nor is it remotely comparable to shutting down a few national parks and sending some federal employees home for a few days. This would be an unmitigated disaster.
