*7 Vice President Willkie did not run for reelection in 1944 for health reasons
*8 Kennedy dies unexpectedly on a sailing trip.
*9 Due to an emerging recession, Conservatives lose the 1962 midterms badly, leaving Goldwater with only 28 Senate seats (to the Share-Our-Wealth's 37 and the Republican's 35) and 127 House seats (to the Share-Our-Wealth's 168 and the Republican's 140). At this point, the Democratic party ceases to exist.
*10 Both Humphrey and McGovern decline to run for reelection
*11 Chafee starts an unpopular war with Iran, and Kennedy is able to squeak past him in a narrow election.
*12 The Chappaquiddick incident occurs in 1987; Kennedy loses primary
*13 - Chaffee/Powell defeats the incumbent Share Our Wealth President as well as the Conservative Party nominee
*14- For the 2000 election the party system was restructured; after years of coalitions, liberal Republicans and most in the Share Our Wealth party merged to form the Progressive-Populist Party. Moderate Republicans and Conservatives formed the Liberty-Republic Party. After a messy sex scandal and ultimate divorce in 1999, Gingrich loses.
*15 Obey suffers a heart attack in 2004 and announces that he will not be returning as VP if Miller is reelected. The Progressive-Populists replace him with the younger and more enthusiastic Dean, and Miller wins reelection.
*16 After an affair with his "true love" a White House journalist from Argentina, Sanford resigns and moves to Argentina.
*17 After the media discovers Vitter on the list of "The DC Madam", Vitter is forced to resign in shame.
*18 During the 2012 election, Liberty-Republic nominee John Ensign is tied to yet another sex scandal; he is trounced by a wide 59-37 margin. Because of the trio of Sanford, Vitter and Ensign, the L-R party is on life support, trailing on the  the generic ballot by 58-35 to the P-P party; top officials float the idea of reviving the Conservative Party.
