Trump simply can't involve himself in the civil war. There's no benefits to the United States intervening and a risk of a quagmire is already high. His base hates the idea. Swing voters don't want to go into Syria.

It's worth pointing out that we're already in Syria, and we're already involved in the civil war there.  Just not the part that involves fighting either with or against the Assad regime:

We've really optimized the process. It used to be years before we fought some group we funded. Now we're funding groups actively fighting each other.

stability is not the highest goal of this world, otherwise all countries would be dictatorships.

The middle east is obviously worse off due to our foreign policy.

i agree.

the question would just be if it is the noble thing to first break something and then look away and let others do the cleaning.

When a bull is in your china shop, you don't ask the bull to stay and fix things.
