Republicans would never negotiate with terrorists. The Iranian hostages were just coincidentally released on Reagan's inauguration day. The Iran-contra scandal never happened, and the World Court did not find the US guilty of terrorism in Nicaragua.

It's amazing how many Republicans thought this was a good idea until Obama proposed it.

Just to be clear...the critics think we should have left him with the Taliban?

No. They would be criticizing Obama for that too. The critics disagree with Obama no matter what he does.

Well I guess this just confirms that negotiating with terrorists is easier and more fruitful than negotiating with Republicans.

What's the difference?

Nothing

Again, just to be clear, the critics want us to have left him behind? (even after the war ends and the US pulls out)?

No, they'll criticize Obama no matter what he does.

Bergdahl's parents are now receiving death threats.  Troubling but not surprising.

Oh man, all these years the father has been a reliable Republican, and now the entire Republican noise machine is aimed squarely at him.

New poll out from Pew/USA Today:

http://www.people-press.org/2014/06/09/public-has-doubts-about-bergdahl-prisoner-exchange/

More people see this prisoner exchange as the wrong thing to do than the right thing to do:

Veterans and people who live in a household with a veteran are more likely than civilians to think the exchange was wrong, more likely to be angry with Bergdahl than sympathetic, and less likely to think that the US was obligated to do whatever it could to free him:

This country is truly full of dumbs.

Yawn.

Prisoners' exchange is such a common practice, so I don't understand the fuss.

Wasn't Bergdahl the only POW from the War in Afghanistan? That probably magnifies this story.

Yes, and now there's 0 POWs. John McCain is angry that no one else gets to feel his pain.

Another national poll (this one by NBC/WSJ) shows a plurality oppose the Bergdahl swap (44% oppose, 30% favor, the rest have no opinion):

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2014/06/18/obama-gets-low-marks-for-bergdahl-swap-wsjnbc-poll/

Well, I'm in the 30% and I disapprove of Obama. The other 70% are dumbs.
