How cliche do you have to be to thing of this as some stalwart battle cry for the freedom of man? The book--with the political machinations by various government members for power over a crumbling, delegitimized bureaucracy--was far more interesting. The film is simply "1984" with a happy ending. This crap is so Bush era.

EDIT: In light of the Catholic connection, I have to say I am now more proud than ever to be born on Guy Fawkes Day.

Well put. From a pure story standpoint, it's an engaging and interesting film. The people who obsess over it, however, are usually geeks who have infowars stickers that cover their webcam. Personally, I love the graphic novel of V for Vendetta, and it was one of the first things that got me into graphic novels in the first place, but for some reason, the movie adaptation is so contrived, yet so suited for that demographic of people that think it's a political forecast rather than a work of fiction.

Also, the Anonymous connection makes it even more cringeworthy. For all the good that Anonymous does, they're still a bunch of lame neckbeards who think that hacktivism solves anything. Yeah, it's cool to doxx child predators and reveal the identities of the KKK (which...did they really even do that?) But taking down the CIA's website and planting porn on people's computers is a level of stupidity that can't be matched by any other millennial activist group. Plus, they really hate SJWs, which is kind of weird considering their viewpoints overlap quite a bit. I guess it depends on how you see the whole egalitarian vs. feminism debate. Gotta impress 4Chan somehow.
