It seemed the choice was made to change the name from the start because some prefer another name that was not chosen when the constitution was debated and written by delegates.
Apparently it's fun to reopen old debate and make some people unhappy.
People are going to be happy no matter what. There is no pleasing
everyone. After that, one's philosophy on keeping things status quo comes into play. My philosophy (along with our Governor, our Senator, a Former President, and many other citizens of the North) is that keeping things status quo isn't always the best idea. So we decided to shake things up and change the name of the region.
I'm not really sure why this is such a big deal either, outside of being a relatively minor inconvenience for a few weeks after the name change.
