As a lot of you may know, my love for music runs deep--it is something I hold near and dear to my heart because for a time, I believe, it was the only thing keeping me alive.

Anyway, I'm a very strict Libertarian--a no good Anarchocapitalist, freedom-for-all SOB.

Now, I've been thinking...some of the music I listen to and sing along to does not often reflect my political beliefs. I listen to bands like Enter Shikari (a band from England that argues that plundering for oil has destroyed our society and that we should live in a world envisioned by the Zeitgeist movement) as well as bands like Rage Against The Machine (it doesn't get more strictly far-left than RATM) but there are bands like Muse (have trumpeted their libertarian beliefs in the past) that I like, so I have to ask...do you believe one's political views at all play a role in their interest in music? Just food for thought Smiley

Re: "triumphed"

I believe the colloquial term you mean to use is "trumpeted."

Ooooopsie Tongue Thank you Smiley

My favourite band is Rush, who are right-libertarian Objectivists last time I checked.

I think Neil Peart is a left-leaning Libertarian.

My favorite band, NOFX, while having some libertarianish leanings, are very VERY anti-Conservative..and I'm just anti-social conservatives.  Most of my other favorite bands are the same way to one extent or another.  There certainly is a lot crossover with punk and libertarian...what with the DIY ethic and anti-establishment...ism of both groups.  Punks are probably a little more INYOURFACE about it...on the other hand, the Paulites.

Yes, yes this. A lot of Libertarians kinda claim NOFX to be one of them, when they're really not...I mean, they're like left-libertarians because they hold the anti-government sentiment, but they're probably not fiscal conservatives. Punk is an inherently "f**k authority figures" type of genre, so hating government comes standard. I really like NOFX though.

I like country music and jingoistic patriotic-nationalistic music, yet I'm an internationalist progressive liberal.

I don't think any of my favourite bands clash with my political beliefs, but then most don't wear their political allegiances to their sleeves, so it's difficult to know exactly.

Yeah, this is something else that must be taken into consideration. Olot of bands I like don't really display their politics (and rightfully so)

Well, everyone knows a true Christian wouldn't support the slaughter of millions of people, regardless of the reasoning behind it.

Obviously, but we all know plenty of "Christians" were still behind Bush's foreign policy. The point is they aren't right wing and I doubt anyone at the show disagreed. There obviously would be some right wingers if there's no correlation with musical taste and politics.

lol pro-war pro-death penalty Christians

Didn't virtually every punk band publicly denounce Nazism and verbally, yet viscerally destroy their fascist fans?
