We're talking about a group where Robert Byrd, who thinks the purpose of the federal government is to funnel as much pork as possible into West Virginia, is considered the leading Constitutional scholar.

Why are the Democrats (Miss Catholic, nini2287 and myself) less partisan in our picks than you Republicans?

OK, granted, I shun wing nuts but, at least, no-one could accuse me of being partisan as far the SCOTUS is concerned

Dave

It's not bi-partisan to dream about packing the Court with nine moderate senators who all support a free-spending, intrusive, and highly-regulating federal government.

Well, it sure beats packing the court with those who are beholden to false Gods (that is, their ideologies)

Dave

Every member of the U.S. Senate is there because they are beholden to a certain ideology.  It may be a moderate ideology.  Sadly, too many judges act on political ideology, but our chances of finding good justices among judges is a lot better than looking to the Senate for candidates.
