If sections 1, 2, 5, 6, and most of 3 and 4 are cut out, I may consider supporting this bill.

I oppose the amendment, of course. 5 is overly draconian, and 6 is unnecessary. 4 is the heart of the bill, as Nix has said, and so it can stay with reforms.

Are you objecting to it then?

Yes I am.

I must admit I've never understood this argument in relation to gun policy. "This is a very limited proposal that will only prevent a small amount of incidents, why do it at all?!" Because it's a limited and respectful proposal that prevents a small amount of incidents rather than none, guys. That's why.

This is an attempt at snipping off the very tip of a weed when we need to grab and pull it out by the roots. All the attention is on mass shootings, yet those consist of less than 1% of gun murders. To really stop violent crime we need a renewed War on Poverty.

It absolutely is an excuse to avoid actual solutions. Again taking an example from real life, the neoliberal "left" has decided that gun control will be the hill they die on in 2013. The waffling centrist of a president has decided that instead of renewing the War on Poverty (and thus actually helping the black community as opposed to just being black) or fighting inequality, he will devolve politics into a spectacle of volatile social issues designed to win elections, not solve long-term problems. I'll be easy on him, given that any real reform of any kind would never pass the fascist house and the incompetent Senate. But this is Atlasia. There is no excuse.

If you so insist, we can debate the merits of the bill itself. I apologize if I pulled this in a different direction too greatly.

As to some of your earlier points, I agree that a "right to bear arms" does not preclude reasonable regulations and restrictions on a tool that can be dangerous to the user and to others, whether maliciously or not. Though some requirements and restrictions feel a bit stringent (those will be handled in an amendment I'll get to work on today), the good spirit of the bill is something I can get behind if it's declawed to some extent.

I wish to make an amendment, but for convenience's sake I'd first like the current text of the bill. I'm a bit confused, since we voted on Napoleon's amendment to the amendment before voting on the amendment.

I amend to strike Section 2. A national registry of handguns, in my opinion, is unnecessary intrusion into citizens' private lives, and will be all too useful to the state when the revolution comes.
