The new episode was...okay. Spike, Pinkie, and Twilight were great, and the animation has gotten even better. The villain was horribly dull though (especially compared to Discord), and they did a horrible job of explaining...anything about the Crystal Empire/King Sombra. Maybe it will get better with a second viewing; after all, our expectations after 6 ponyless months were far too high.

New episode tomorrow, seems to be about the CMC's dealing with a bully. The previews seem decent.

Also, I heard somewhere that Tosh.0 did a segment about the...other elements of the fandom, and of course implied we're all like that. Instead of taking the usual wrote of hastily typing up angry letters, which makes us look like idiots and never does a thing, I hope we just ignore it for a change. It's like writing an angry letter to Mitt Romney every time he lied on the campaign trail. Tosh.0 isn't even that funny anyway.

...Not quite sure what to think of this one. On one hand, the old-school music video was well-made (Ingram rarely disappoints, and I liked the reference to that concession stand cartoon), and some of the interactions between the Crusaders were pretty fun (like the initiation ceremony). Pinkie driving the lettuce car (and then leaving the wheel to read) was also pretty funny.

On the other hand, this episode really came off as heavy-handed, as if it were just an anti-bullying PSA with ponies. The whole thing of Babs having been bullied herself was fairly obvious from the start (and introduced rather poorly), though with only 22 minutes to write a story I'll cut them some slack. And I'm not entirely sure how I feel that the Cutie Mark Crusaders technically planned to kill Babs Seed. Overall, fairly entertaining, but one of the weaker episodes. Other than Too Many Pinkie Pies, Season 3 has honestly not been on par with the past two seasons other than the animation.

Today's episode wasn't of the same caliber as Magic Duel/Sleepless in Ponyville, but I rather liked it as a fairly limited episode (with one of the best lessons in the series, IMO). Anyone else thought that the twin shooting stars (which appeared twice) symbolized her parents?

Very few people hate the show itself; that's more directed towards the fans themselves. As for the appeal, some of it comes from the very fact that it's "childish". On the other hand, there are some genuinely well-written episodes and moments (the one you watched has been particularly divisive, actually ), and the occasional cultural reference (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS4LrRRcbCM) or a so-called "parental bonus" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt3y4jkVvr0).

Also, the animation's really good.

Does the Flim Flam Brothers' song remind anyone else of "Shipoopi" and "Bag of Weed" from Family Guy?

Also, was the cider in that episode alcoholic?

"Cider" here is just thicker apple juice, while in Europe it refers specifically to an alcoholic beverage which is called "hard cider" in the US/Canada. Given that the show is made by Americans and Canadians, and that it's for children, I'll presume it isn't (though the fact that it's fizzy and in a mug could be an attempt to sneak it through).

The Flim Flam Brothers were quite clearly a reference to Harold Hill, and the song a reference to "Ya Got Trouble".

Thoughts on Just For Sidekicks?

I really liked it (it should also be noted that Gummy is my favorite character ). Corey Powell has so far written this episode and Sleepless in Ponyville, both of which are among the better episodes of this season. Hope he stays on for Season 4 and beyond!

Anypony else think the fandom is dying?

There seems to be a civil war over the Twilight alicorn thing (I'm kind of worried but not crowing about the apocalypse, since I honestly didn't like A Canterlot Wedding that much). Depending on how the season finale is, it either sticks together and grows or tears itself apart into warring factions like the Sonic fans.
