Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

I've never understood this tendency many, maybe even most, people seem to have to tie themselves in knots rather than admit that their people or their side are doing anything--possibly even can do anything--wrong. That's all I have to say about this for right now.

Well, evidently some Jewish people feel safe in these environments, and some do not. What is that supposed to prove?

If this encampment and the students were even half as bad as the people here are making it out to be, based on edge cases that haven't even been confirmed to be students or outsiders, I think it's actually a pretty big deal that lots of Jews feel safe expressing their faith in front of these 'virulent, malicious, antisemites'.

Asking as a factual clarification before we continue: does the source you're quoting focus on Columbia, Yale, or both? Both are mentioned, and my sense is that the atmosphere at New England universities is a bit different and more nuanced and convivial than at some of these New York and DC and California schools.

Yeah it’s kinda obviously a big yikes to be labeling people as Zionists just for wearing a Star of David
How are protestors supposed to know whether the person is wearing it purely as a religious symbol or whether its because they are supporting Israel?

When in doubt they should err on the side of not harassing other students, obviously. What is wrong with people?

I see Cotton has called for the National Guard to be sent in.

Uh . . . the National Guard does not have a sterling record as far as quelling student protests are concerned, as Kent State would be eager to remind us.

I am close to 100% certain that Tom "Underincarceration" Cotton thinks the National Guard did nothing wrong at Kent State.

This has been my experience as well. Also the same for two of my uncles.

And I know multiple people who have had the exact opposite experience. Can we please stop throwing personal anecdotes about how great and wonderful our Side is and how evil and malignant the other Side is back and forth as if they amount to real political discussion?

I stan Shai Davidai. Kapos and asajews deserve all the withering criticism they're getting.

I support his cause but he personally seems dislikable. Would you really go so far as to say you like him?
Yeah, not gonna lie that he's annoying and doesn't seem to get how the first amendment works. I'm still gonna cheer him on for calling these people what they are. I'm tired of these fringe lunatics being propped up as tokens by those who seek our destruction.

Who is "our"?

And blue avs would pitch a fit if someone called Clarence Thomas or Byron Donalds a token. Rightfully so! That's scummy as hell. No different here, you have to fall back on insults because your case is weak.

If they said it in those words, yes, but observing that Clarence Thomas seems weirdly hostile to the political and economic interests of his traditionally disfavored racial/ethnic group is not novel or unusual on this forum at all.

Absolutely insane that they seriously do seem to be escalating towards the Kent State approach here. I already am not going to vote for Kathy Hochul again, but if she does send the National Guard to Columbia and the protesting students (unpleasant though I think many of them are) get hurt or worse, I might go so far as to canvass against her.

I mean, I get that Kent State was a horrific incident fifty years ago, but on the odds I'd much rather have the National Guard restoring order as opposed to local police in terms of unit discipline.

Ugh, yes, I suppose that is the likeliest alternative here. I hope you're right.

Here we are.
Joe Biden has sacrificed his campaign for Benjamin Netanyahu.

I can’t wait to witness your reaction when Biden wins this year. Buckle up.

That poll has him down almost ten points. He has quite a ways to go. I wouldn't be this cocky if I were you.

I’ve seen that poll. I’ve seen all the polls! lol

I still believe Biden will win because he represents the middle, far from this nonsense and MAGA nonsense on the other end of the spectrum (or horseshoe).

Horseshoe theory isn't real.

The horseshoe remark in that post is something of an obiter dictum. The more important question is whether the median voter theorem is real. (Unfortunately?,) it probably isn't.
