The Last Jedi is as much a "sequel" to its predecessors as Barbie is a "sequel" to Oppenheimer.

Less so. I did a Barbenheimer double feature with some friends the other night and the movies are--I am not making this up--legitimately more complementary in terms of theme than TLJ is with any previous Star Wars movie.

This thread reminds me of when one of my friends convinced me to go watch Rise of Skywalker to the cinema in 2019. I had watched Force Awakens but not The Last Jedi so he spent like 20 minutes telling me in detail the plot of that movie so I wouldn't feel lost while watching the third one. In the end absolutely nothing that he told me in those 20 minutes had any relevance whatsoever to the movie we were watching. I thought it was funny. That movie was crap by the way.

The Fall of Star Wars makes The Last Jedi look like The Empire Strikes Back, yes.

Once the credits started rolling for The Rise of Skywalker u had an urge to throw my empty popcorn bucket at the screen. I sort of slapped my hand to prevent it.

By that point I was too drunk to care.
