I'm guessing the "moderate" religious cleavage in Japan has to do with SGI and thus Komeito. The only other religious aspect of Japanese voting patterns that I'm aware of is the Christian minority being to the left of the general population, and even that is a comparatively quite mild pattern (there are plenty of right-wing Japanese Christians too, up to and including the outgoing Deputy PM) that can be explained just as well by other factors such as Japanese Christians skewing downscale.
