I don't think very highly of his version of leftist politics in general, and some of his specific views are downright dangerous, but he's an interesting poster and much more self-aware than most of our unreconstructed Marxists. I guess that rounds to HP, but he's not an HP I have any desire to rid the forum of.

EDIT: That was my opinion of Big Abraham, not JA. JA I think is an FF, although I'm concerned by his gradually more tankieish outlook and can foresee myself amending my opinion of him to be pretty much the same as my opinion of Big Abraham in the future.

Reprehensible views overlaid on a basic personality and personal history that I've always felt an odd sense of kindred spirits with and still do. Not sure if he's getting better or worse at the moment, but I'll always believe in his capacity for self-reflection and self-renewal.

I disagree with him strongly on many issues, but his contributions to this forum are always very eloquent and interesting.

Really? Huh.

Thank you, though!

Relatively normal and sane given the alternatives.

I'm not crazy about Nuke, but I don't dislike him as much as his politics would normally dictate.

An HP that can make me laugh. Not as rare a combination for me as it is for him.

The thing that makes Fuzzy difficult to assess using the FF/HP dichotomy is that he's really not that terrible On The Issues (with the exception of immigration policy, but I've been trying to get better at understanding why people who are hard-right on immigration see the issue the way they do). I see him as someone who's made the ultimate Trumpian "deal"--bottomless apologia for a wildly corrupt and unfit president in exchange for that president going to bat for policies favored by the pro-life movement and the Evangelical subculture* more generally. Frankly, I see this as a Garrisonian "covenant with death and agreement with hell", and I do think pretty poorly of Fuzzy for it, but I don't actually think it's a deal one needs to be a bad person to have made. And I don't think Fuzzy is a bad person; in fact, there are some other things about him that I like or even admire.

Of course, he could just easily lambast my political commitments as a decision to provide Critical Support For Comrade Cultureofdeath in exchange for getting my way on things like healthcare and the environment. And perhaps he'd be right to do so. That's the tragedy of attempting to act morally in a morally broken political system.

*I'm not using this word pejoratively; I'm a member of several subcultures myself.

I think fondly of Gracile, even though we don't see eye-to-eye on everything.

His endless appetite for, well, old-school Republicanism despite being anti-Trump is starting to get on my nerves. At some point he has to realize that a lot of what makes Trump so awful (even on a personal level) is a fulfillment of Reaganite conservatism, not a break from it. He's still a generally stand-up, affable guy, though, so I'll say he's a very soft HP.

Pretty good for a newbie blue avatar. I'm interested to see how his posting style develops in the post-Trump era.

I'm flattered, but "Red Torypilled Marxist" is actually closer to the mark; I was raised left-wing and came to religion in my teens.

Sanchez is an HP, but he's our HP and one of my oldest friends here.

TimTurner's okay by me. I like that he always asks me really interesting and precise questions about New England history and culture when I do AMAs.

I'm not a fan, but I do like him a bit better than most other red and maroon avatars seem to. He seems very young with precocious intellectual pretensions (or pretentious intellectual precocity), and I see a lot of myself in that.

Huge FF. However, I think he sometimes lets politics get in the way of how he views his fellow Christians.

This is the sort of criticism that I try to be very careful to take to heart, so thank you for saying so.
