ag is right that Sanders would have made a far worse actual general election candidate than his polling during the primary suggested, but I think it's transparent Very Serious Person fantasizing that Cuomo would be doing better than Hillary is.
The Democrats wouldn't actually have had an especially great bench this year under any circumstances, because of 2010 and 2014, but a divorced-and-cohabiting aging white guy with shady ties from his time as HUD Secretary who, as governor, gave up on a ten-point women's rights program just because the one point expanding late-term abortions didn't pass (while cutting funding for poor and teenage mothers), made reducing public employee pensions his 'top goal', said that social conservatives 'had no place' in his state, and went from a +30 victory in his first election to a +14 victory in his second would not and should not have made it through either a Democratic primary or the general election.
