Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Brent Kroeger pores over nasty online comments about stay-at-home dads, wondering if his friends think those things about him.

Yes they do.  Just like any of the women I dated in Europe would.  Get out and get a job you lazy @hole and support your family.

I would assume his wife has a job and supports their family.

In high school?!  Read the article.  He made a decision in high school not to get a job.  That has nothing to do with gender or gender roles.  That implies women are lazy sacks of $h-t that sit around waiting for someone to support them.  My family is very traditional and my mother spent years not working staying at home taking care of children but she made d@mn sure if my father cheated on her or died she could go out and get a six figure job of her own.  She was not sitting around high school telling people she wanted to sit at home being supported by some man.  She was too busy studying and trying to get into a competitive university to even think of such things.

This caricature that is being painted of the "traditional" role of women by this loser is absurd.

Your mom sounds great but I really just don't think that calling people 'lazy sacks of sh**t' for wanting to be homemakers is at all helpful or valid, particularly since homemaking is hard work. Kroeger wanted to be a homemaker when he was in high school. How in the world does that somehow automatically imply that he had no sense of flexibility or backup plans, or that he had or has no other talents?

I would say anyone in this economy who was not singlemindely pursuing some means of independently supporting themselves starting in the teen years is a reckless idiot.

I see. Well screw you too, then.

Lol.  You think encouraging young people regardless of gender to secure the means of providing for themselves in case of unforseen calamity is worthy of a "screw you"?!

You didn't 'encourag[e] young people regardless of gender to secure the means of providing for themselves in case of unfor[e]seen calamity'. You repeatedly insulted people for not being singleminded careerists (as in, you said singleminded, that's your word, not mine) starting in high school. There is a difference.

Apparently not singleminded careerism? Sorry that bothers you so.

I was being over the top.

It wasn't easy to tell.

'Despairing', possibly.

____________

The rest of what you say is entirely reasonable considering that you said you were being over the top.
