I would say the ideal officeholder should have no gender, no race, no religion, no socioeconomic background, etc. - or at least not be aware of them. The veil of ignorance notion seems fundamentally true to me.

I'd love to subscribe to that notion. I genuinely would. I think the conditions of the world as it is make it impossible; may that some day no longer be the case. In that sense I suppose an officeholder behind a Rawlsian veil of ignorance would actually be my 'ideal', with a mentally ill non-heterosexual female cleric a contingent preference.

Sure there is, Nathan - let us know more about yourself?  I have this vague impression that you abhor sex and dress up as a lady, and perhaps live in a rural area (be careful, that's not a particularly healthy combination).  I'd love to know more in order to dispel any misapprehensions I may have.  You're an interesting man and brother poster!

There should be more than enough there for you to work with, and since I'm in a better mood now than I was a few days ago, go nuts.

Interesting!  Would it be the case that this 'non-rhotic accent' is more or less prevalent in a certain class?

Not really. It's somewhat unusual for the part of New England that I'm from, actually. Other than being non-rhotic my accent isn't too dissimilar from what you'd find in parts of upstate New York or Ontario.
