Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Vaguely emo in both musical style and subject matter but harder-edged than that would normally imply. Think Spring Awakening meets Tommy.

Simfan would do a rehash of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, except it would change parts of the overall message and have a generally snobbish, but ostensibly meritocratic, tone.

Vosem, I think Simfan might have confused you with TJ?

If I were to write a musical about Japanese history I'd strongly consider making it about a less depressing period than the Bakumatsu.

How would it be different, exactly?

The plot would be largely the same but I'd think you'd tone the satire a little. It's been a while since I've seen the show so I'm not sure precisely what that would entail, but I can see you cutting 'I Believe in You'. I'm not sure if you'd lionize or demonize Finch, but I'm pretty sure you would do one or the other.

Barnes, I actually like Pacific Overtures a lot, it's just, as I said, really depressing.

Anyway, we're on Barnes, for whoever's next.

A conceptually interesting musical that stumbles because it's less than understanding of (and arguably vaguely disrespectful of) the conventions of the medium. The music would be awful but the book might be pretty good.
