Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Certain folks are threatened by anybody who doesn't fall within their perception of what 'normal' people 'should' be like, even if whatever difference there may be is blatantly not the fault of the people in question or in many cases even anybody in particular except maybe God. This has always been so.

Having said that, there actually are reasonable Republican voices on this issue, so the side of the devils in this particular war fortunately lacks a united front.

hahahaha, the American senate fails to ratify a UN treaty on the rights of the disabled? hahahaha, are you guys even serious? I'm literally lost for words.

I especially love Inks and Ernest in this thread. Keep up the good work, guys!

Yeah, America is only two decades ahead of the curve - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americans_with_Disabilities_Act_of_1990

Nobody's claiming otherwise. The ADA language was the model for the language in the treaty in question. The problem is that certain elements in the United States are currently opposed to a treaty graciously extending worldwide the protections that disabled people have enjoyed in this country for twenty-two years on the basis of an easily corrected and frankly paranoid misinterpretation of the treaty's in fact negligible effect on domestic homeschooling law.

This shows how screwed up the GOP is now. You have two former GOP presidential nominees, both of whom are respected military veterans and purple heart recipients,  pushing for the bill and the majority of the GOP senators side with Rick Santorum, failed nominee, frothy substance namesake and columnist for World Net Daily
Though Bush did not receive the Purple Heart, I agree with you completely on the message here-

He's referring to Dole and McCain. Although, looking it up, it seems McCain indeed did not receive the Purple Heart for some reason. (Was it because it was torture and not combat?)
