TV ad spending last week (Aug 13 – 19) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/track-presidential-campaign-ads-2012/

$33.9 million was spent last week on TV ads between Romney + SuperPACs and Obama + SuperPacs.  That’s $10.8M more than the $23.1M that was spent the week before.

Barack Obama +SuperPACs spent $12.0M total, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $21.9M. This is the first week this summer that Romney has nearly doubled the amount of ad spending of the Obama campaign. Until this week, spending between the two campaigns was roughly at parity.

Out of 210 total television markets throughout the country, the 5 that saw the most spending were Washington D.C. ($3.2M), Denver, Colorado ($2.2M), Charlotte, NC ($2.2M), Cleveland, OIHO ($2M), and Tampa, FL ($1.9M). The Las Vegas, Orlando, Columbus, and Raleigh markets weren’t far off.

In the swing-state of Florida, Obama +SuperPACs spent  $2.2M  last week, while Romney +SuperPACs spent $3.7M

In the swing-state of Ohio, Obama +SuperPACs spent  $2.2M last week, while Romney +SuperPACs spent $3.2M.

In the swing-state of Virginia, Obama + SuperPACs spent $1.9M last week, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $3.3M

In the swing-state of Iowa, Obama + SuperPACs spent $954K last week, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $1.6M

In the swing-state of North Carolina, Obama + SuperPACs spent $1.4M last week, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $2.7M.

In the swing-state of Colorado, Obama + SuperPACs spent $1.2M last week, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $1.6M.

In the swing-state of Nevada, Obama + SuperPACs spent $862K last week, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $1.2M.

In the swing-state of New Hampshire, Obama + SuperPACs spent $552K, while Romney + SuperPACs spent $280K.

Interesting. The National Journal numbers show a much larger disparity between Romney and Obama.



True. Not sure why, though the WaPo cite seems to have more details. I've been tracking this for months now, and last wk was the first week where Romney & co. fairly massively outspent Obama & co. Almost like they timed it to coincide w/ the week following the Romney pick. The Romney cash advantage (which is apparently rearing it's head NOW) will allow them to hone in on Republican leaning states that went Obama last time (NC, VA, etc), while expanding the map to include states like WI, MI, PA, etc (places where John McCain simply didn't have the $$ to compete.)
