If I had one, Under no circumstances would I ever not love my child.  And the only thing that would pain me enough to "disown" them would be if they caused direct serious harm to others through their actions.  My fondest wish for my offspring would be that they grow up to give something back to this world - to make it a better place for future generations.

Being gay, athiest or muslim wouldn't bother me at all as long as they are also active Republicans and working to assist moderate interests within the Party.

If my child became a Democrat, I would not blame or disown them - I would blame myself for not raising them right. Smiley

I've had libertarian, fundy-Christian, and neo-confederate stages during my teen years, so I would probably have home that they would grow out of those.  I can't imagine that any child of mine would ever hate people, hate gays, or hate the United States.

I don't use drugs or alcohol, and would hope to instill those values into my children.  That being said, I would do everything that I could to help them get over their addictions - rather than exacerbate the problem by not providing them the support they would need.

None of these "offenses" are serious enough to deserve disowning. I would be very unhappy about 9, and somewhat mildly unhappy about 3, 4, and 10. The others I have no objection to.

But what if your child were a loose Constructionist? Smiley

Y'all would disown your child just because of the sexual preference that your genetics gave to them?  That's pretty sad.

If I had a child, there is nothing in the world that would prevent me from showing unconditional love and support.  However, for the purposes of this question, there are things that he/she could do that would be so disappointing and hurtful that a certain distance would be created.

1. Gay-  No

2. Atheist- No

3. Fundy Christian- No, so long as they kept the discrimination and their ignorance of the "love they neighbor" parts of the Bible to a minimum.

4. Muslim- No

5. Republican- No.

6. Democrat- No, but I would be extremely disappointed, and encourage them to get help

7. Libertarian- No, all kids go through that phase.  Only 0.3% remain that way past high school.

8. Abortion- No

9. Drug User- See #6.

10. Neo-Confederate- No, even I went through that phase.  I suppose it depends on whether they are just traitor-sympathizers (as I once was) or out-and-out bigots and racists.  The latter would certainly cause a chasm in our relationship.

No they don't - in fact most high school kids don't give enough of a flying f**k in high school to be any type of political being. Being 'rebellious' is different from being libertarian or Libertarian anyways.

Well I meant that I went through that phase Tongue
