What is Central Europe?

There's kind of a running joke that "Eastern Europe" starts in the country immediately to one's east.

In a similar spirit, I remember reading in different sources (one for each country) that both Germany and Russia in the nineteenth century thought of themselves as uniquely situated between East and West.

In any case, agreed with the above: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
