Capatalism has been a pox on humanity since its foundation. Capitalism, on the other hand...

There's no such thing as a pure socialist state or a pure capitalist state. Everything is a blend to some extent.

Socialism isn't about government-run services (healthcare, education, transportation, etc), as many American liberals who call themselves "socialists" seem to believe. Socialism refers to the means of production being publicly owned.

The government represents and is an extension of the public. At least in an ideal sense.

So when I hear about a ban on handguns and that only the government can have them, it's okay, because that means we just gave guns to more people, right?

No, I do not support useless, non-working social parasites robbing the productive members of society blind and subjecting them to artificial scarcity, privation, and lack of basic necessities all so said useless parasites can buy another yacht or blow a bunch of money on cocaine.

May I ask which workers' cooperative designed, built and sold the computer and operating system on which you wrote that, or which one maintains the Internet connection you're using?

Hahaha, granted Tongue.

But really IndyTX, surely you must wonder at times how such a system encourages an extraordinary wealth gap between those who own and those who don't.  Sure, Bill Gates did that, but what gives him the right to earn so much that n generations of descendants won't have to worry about ever getting a job (not saying they won't, but it wouldn't be necessary for them to) while many families in this country won't even be able to give their kids a half decent education and thus be doomed to several more generations of poverty?

He engaged in consensual economic agreements that were beneficial to him. In such cases where, perhaps, the exchanges were non-consensual, then yes, there'd be a platform on which to criticize him.
