I don't see what convinces people that Paul Ryan could have magically won the Vice Presidency in this scenario.

Did Joe Lieberman have a notable advantage over Dick Cheney that I'm missing? I know that he was centrist and all, but I recall reading that Cheney performed markedly better than Lieberman in the Vice Presidential debate.
