There was a difference between Isreal attacking Iraq and Isreal attacking Iran.  Iran will not hold back in launching a counter-attack, dispite the presence of US forces in the region.  Isreal, on the other hand, is not that stupid, since it would unite most of the Middle East against them in a heart beat, dispite the decades of trying to ease the tensions in the region.
