Quite interesting and I think it has had some impact.  However, leep in mind that the changes in the party platform (along with the changes in the GOP party platform) have transformed many of the mid atlantic & northeast suburbs from republican to  Democratic, and these are areas with some of the highest (if not the highest) concentration of Catholics in the entire country.  Though they tend to be quite often middle class college educated Catholics as opposed to working class Catholics without college
