It's not like it is some surprise that Obama would endorse Feinstein. Kevin de Leon is only really running because he is one of the Senate Presidents or Assembly Speakers in the past decade or so not to have another elected office lined up after being termed out. Whenever Lucille Roybal Allard retires he will probably go for her seat and have a good chance at being a leader in Congress.

Lol, people are either calling Feinstein too moderate or far-left. Atlas is so interesting.

De Leon knew that he couldn't win this race when he entered. His goal is to keep some name recognition so he can run for something in the future (probably Roybal Allard's seat when she eventually retires).

Feinstein's best counties in the primary are the most liberal ones (Alameda, Marin, San Francisco). She is from the Bay Area, but it is still quite telling and demonstrates why she is safe. If you can't convince those counties that someone isn't liberal enough then there it is going to be impossible to make up the difference elsewhere.

I voted for him in the primary just to keep a Republican out of the top two and I might vote for him in the general just because it's sad that he's doing so poorly. He likely knows he can't win and is only running to stay somewhat relevant. I heard him speak and he didn't even mention Feinstein's name once or even attack her indirectly.

It's worth noting that a lot of Sanders supporters won a lot of delegates in party elections after the 2016 election so the endorsement isn't really a surprise. As I've mentioned before Feinstein's best areas were the most liberal parts of the state so it's hard to see de Leon having an opening in November.

I don't think the cross party endorsements really mean much regarding ideology especially when they come from people who hold officially non-partisan offices. Kathryn Barger is fairly moderate and the only Republican on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors which is a position where being on good terms with higher level elected officials is beneficial to bringing money for projects to your district. For the most part Feinstein isn't going to get many Republican endorsements because she is still far too liberal for them even if she's not liberal enough for many progressives.
