I don't think any Deep South Republican has a real shot. Most are too far-right to appeal to swing voters.

The same could be said about Massachusetts Senate Democrats. Yet one of those somehow got a nomination.

The nomination wasn't what I was talking about, I was referring to the general. Kerry lost, but he wasn't perceived to being way out of the mainstream. A Republican from Alabama is absolutely unacceptable to many swing voters, just based on perception.
