This new CROP re Grits is as hilarious as it is predictable: 34/22/21/18 among Francophones, 32/29/19/18 topline.

Closer to home for me: Libman beats Dery for the Tory nomination in Mount Royal. Been wondering what a municipal Libman/Housefather race would look like for years, will get a federal answer: Housefather landslide.

Good Legault column on Mount Royal.

Debate update: consortium proposing 2 in each language. May in all of them, Beaulieu in the French debate.

Eve Adams has caught up to her local rival in memberships. Key phrase: "... for a nomination that the Grits will not call until she has opened up a significant lead."

Debates: Parties mulling non-consortium debates, Tories in particular want some.

Harper accepts FP debate from Munk School. Grit hissy fit continues, but they'll come around. Mulcair won't accept a debate without Harper.

Consortium has arranged 2 debates without Harper. My guess is that he'll ignore them, like Cameron did.

Why are the Bloc Quebecois doing so badly recently - focusing on independence too much?

Never recovered from 2011, and they're led by a nutter. They get almost no coverage even in normally friendly media. They still have the hardcore sovereigntists but nothing more than that. Francophones are mostly NDP, and conservative nationalists have the Tories. As NDP MP Alex Boulerice (progressive nationalist, former sovereigntist) said a few months ago, the reason for NDP success is both ideological and leadership.

MacKay's impending retirement opens up Central Nova. DC, who are the likeliest Tories to run?

Reuters: MacKay will make some money in the private sector, then "when people want more of a PC govt. in 6-7 years, he'll be there."

Agreed w/Matt Gurney.

He's not gonna form a coalition with anyone. His voters would strongly prefer he support Mulcair.

Harper will resign if he gets anything less than another majority, he would've done same in 2011. I doubt the opposition parties will be more friendly to Kenney or Moore than they would Harper, and at any rate a leadership process + voter considerations means opposition would want to vote down a Throne Speech as easiest route. If Harper gets a plurality, that is.

More: Duceppe had a set of conditions, NO DRAMA foremost among them. They also commissioned a poll showing Duceppe tripling their support. Duceppe has not yet chosen a seat.

Crabcake: F&D isn't even included in polls, so no big deal either way.

Two obvious seat options: rematch against Laverdière in Laurier-Saint-Marie or running against Boulerice in Rosemont-La Petite Patrie.

Because Marois scared him off twice. Both times were extremely hilarious, '07 more than '12.
