It's still early, but I'm surprised Aubrey Dunn is slightly leading 28% to Tinsley 28% and Newman 23%.  Dona Ana is what decides this race, though.

Has Santa Fe county reported yet? I'm interested to see as to whether they will go for Wiviott (most of the white people in Northern NM live there) or Lujan (I think his dad is a state senator there)

10 minutes!

The anticipation is mounting! For me, at least.

I can't wait to see if Mike Honda has enough in him to defeat write-in!

Heinrich is lucky man.  Vigil-Giron and Lujan-Grisham really the split the vote right down the middle to give him a likely win.

NM-02 and NM-03 on the Dem side are going to be interesting too, depending on what's left.

I'm rooting for Wiviott and Teague.  McCamley seems really phony from what I've seen and Ben R. Lujan is only doing as well as he is because his dad Ben Lujan is immensely popular in the North.

No kidding about Heinrich.  What do you think about the NM-01 race?

I'm a big Martin Heinrich supporter and I'm glad the vote split happened.  Vigil-Giron (a former incompetent SoS) and Darren White (overemotional Sheriff who seeks the local news cameras when a crime occurs like Jesse Jackson does when a black man gets beaten by the police) are pretty slimy individuals.   Heinrich is a hard worker with the Albuquerque City Council and fairly moderate on a lot of issues.

I'm stunned that the carpetbagger liberal is leading the scion of one of NM's leading political families. Maybe all those millions actually paid off this time.

You can thank Benny Shendo and Harry Montoya amassing 22% of likely all-Hispanic/Native American vote for that outcome.  I know my parents and grandparents all voted for Shendo.

Another NM scion in trouble:
Public Regulation Commission
Block, Jerome   Dem   4,128   24%
Throne, Bruce   Dem   4,012   23%

Jerome Block Jr. is the son of Jerome Block, who spent like 25 years holding various statewide jobs in NM before retiring in either 2004 or 2006.

The report on the change in Lujan-Wiviott (according to a call with my mom):  The Santa Fe County Clerk reported some of the precincts backwards so Wiviott got Lujan votes.

Gotta love New Mexico.

Of course... Tongue

It's a damn shame, too.  Could you imagine NM electing Darren White, Ed Tinsley, Don Wiviott to fill its House seats?  It'd be like the Three Stooges: guys with no political background and no idea what the hell they are doing.

Pearce up four points with 82% reporting. Does every election involving Wilson have to be so close?

Who knows... I'm not sure, but the seat Wilson held has been a Republican seat since NM became a 5 EV state (30 years ago?) yet the Democrat always gets 45-49% of the vote nearly every time.

Well, if Pearce wins, it saves me money.

This race should save everyone money. Udall pretty much has this one.

Republicans need to stop being so principled if they want to regain Washington.  They'd rather lose nominating Barry Goldwaters than win with Nelson Rockefellers.

And if they stay stuck on sixties and seventies icons, they will lose regardless of ideology.

It's the best comparison I could think of...

King - I should point out that nutso Dan Foley got taken out tonight, although Adair hung on.

They're all nuts in the New Mexico State Legislature.  Plus, you don't mess with small town New Mexico political bosses.  Rod Adair in Roswell (still hanging on), Walter Bradley in Clovis (he's retired now), Manny Aragon in Santa Fe (he's under an FBI investigation), Raymond Sanchez in Albuquerque (he got gerrymandered out of office by the GOP) and then there's always Big Bill Richardson and Pete Domenici.

To respond to WMS' Heinrich attack on me, my dad has done some work with Heinrich privately in the past and while he paints himself as a liberal, he's got some moderate positions on a lot of things they worked on together so that's why I supported him.

Michelle Lujan Grisham was a good candidate, too, but she was kind of drowned by the scum that is Rebecca Vigil-Giron.

Oh and I want Udall to win the Senate race because when my grandpa got some of his benefits cut out of his federal pension (or it might've been Social Security, one of those things), Udall was the only one who responded to his letter and got something done (he sent both Senators one, too).

All this clerk reporting error and precinct totals not matching up makes me hope McCain-Obama goes down to a 265-268 with New Mexico as the only state left in a virtual deadlock of 100 or so votes.  "Now, that's change we can believe in!"
