It's absurd to think anyone who got into Yale is an idiot savant.

Clearly the man is good at several things.

From the definition provided in the first post, an idiot savant is "a mentally defective person with an exceptional skill or talent in a special field, as a highly developed ability to play music or to solve complex mathematical problems mentally at great speed."

You don't get to Yale with just one talent.

A black man from Detroit who puts in the effort to get into Yale can get into Yale.

Note I say effort. Educational accomplishment is generally an award of effort not of intelligence. Effort can lead to intelligence, as you read more books than most other people, but it does not indicate it.
