Feels more like 1996, at least in terms of the primaries.

Bob Dole-Mitt Romney
Pat Buchanan-Ron Paul
Phil Gramm-Michelle Bachmann
Steve Forbes-Herman Cain
Dick Lugar-Newt Gingrich
Lamar Alexander-Tim Pawlenty/Jon Huntsman
Bob Dornan-Thad McCotter

Huntsman is Arlen Specter; Pawlenty is Pete Wilson.

Alexander would be Mr. Perry.

In July 1983, Ronald Reagan's approval rating was 39%.
In July 1963, John F. Kennedy was still alive.

In July 2011, we know nothing about Obama's first term.

And in July 1991, George H.W. Bush had an approval rating of 72%. Wink
