I thought districts had to be contiguous or whatever?

Not anymore. Stuff happens here when you're gone for a few months, Jesus.

Well I figured it changed. I just wanted to know. But I think it should've stayed the old way.

It seems like the problem is New York! Why not just split it into two states, upstate and NYC metro/Long Island?

Too hard to get people registered in NY...I suggested to make a 6th District that consisted of just NY and PA...

Damn New England, I would have had the perfect map if it wasn't for their low birth rate:

A small adjustment to Phil's

Virginia should never be in the same ranks as CT, RI, and PA.

Virginia should never be in the same ranks as CT, RI, and PA.

And just out of curiousity, why should states like Ohio and West Viriginia be in the same ranks as CT and RI?

Because that way, all the states are Union states. Smiley

If we were to use my map:

D1 = 28
D2 = 26
D3 = 25
D4 = 24
D5 = 23

Not bad, not bad at all.

At least the map makes sense.

Ernest, can I have an exact quote from the Constitution that makes Phil's map illegal?

The only problem with DanielX's 2nd map is that it requires 6 special elections:

1B: Replace IrishDemocrat (moved to D2)
2A: Replace Bono (moved to D1)
3A: Replace Texasgurl (moved to D5)
3B: Replace Nym90 (moved to D5)
4A; Replace StatesRights (moved to D3)
5A: Replace JFK (moved to D4)

Unless we want a complete overhaul of the Senate without waiting for election day, that map wouldn't work.

If the yellow district on the last one has too many votes switch New Mexico's color

JUST FOR FUN:

If each electoral vote (2004), represented a registerred member, this is how I would draw the districts:

it creates 2 solid democratic districts, 2 solid republican districts, and 1 competitive district!

Too bad we have more major parties than just Dems and Reps.
