At some point we need to start ignoring the courts.

Well, this is exactly what overturning Roe achieves in effect since it sends the issue back to State Legislatures.

Regardless of what the final decision is, I can't see this as the opinion. It's far too nakedly political for anyone but Alito or Thomas to sign off on.

Yeah this was obvious.  It's a draft of Alito's opinion, which could take the form of a majority or concurrence depending on how the negotiations between the rest of the conservative bloc play out.

Leaking the documents is a play to exert political pressure on the Justices while they're deep in deliberations.  The liberal outrage machine is only serving to throw fuel on the fire.  The victim is the perceived independence of the courts.

When Obergefell was decided, everyone on the left was openly celebrating an unmitigated victory.

The reaction of Republican politicians and most others on the right could not be more different.

Whether they are sincerely anti-abortion or not, Republicans know this is a political catastrophe for their party and they have no idea how to respond except to lash out at some imagined left-wing leaker.

Yeah it's important to ask how the reaction would be to a leak of the Obergefell decision.... you'd see some tsking and attacks on the leaker but the reaction from liberals would just be celebratory. At most I think a liberal might be like 80% happy/20% upset about the leak. The fact that conservatives aren't celebrating by and large and just focusing on the leak IS telling.

because this isn't a real opinion?

Roberts confirmed it's genuine. It may not be the final opinion but it's not "fake".

That's not what I said.  It is not unknown for Alito/Thomas to author cranky concurrences in 6-3 split decisions, which is what this opinion is likely to become.  That it was dated from February shows that it's a very early, rough draft that will likely be nowhere near the majority opinion in this case.

These people pre Trump would have all been celebrating this decision so yah they are nothing but grifters and I am happy they no longer are Republicans

The people who fund/run the LP now were never Republicans.

This will be litigated and go before the Supreme Court.

Pro-choice advocates should really just lay low for a few years and focus on codifying abortion rights into as many States' laws as possible.  Going the litigious route just gives Alito & Co. the opportunity to create all sorts of anti-choice precedents that will take decades to overturn.

"The DOJ has no role to play in determining what the country's abortion laws will be" said the Supreme Court today.
