Moore would be favored to win given that his scandals have lost two years' worth of salience.

I don't think Moore could win a runoff.  He only beat Strange 54-46 in the runoff, and Byrne won't have the Bentley stench on him.

Remember how Trump endorsed Strange and Moore still beat him? Thats only happened once again in the WY Rep gov primary and thats largely due to many democrats voting in the primary to stop trumps pick Moores brand in AL among Republicans is insane he has a very good chance of being the next nominee

Remember when scandal-tainted, universally loathed Republican governor Robert Bentley appointed the attorney general of Alabama (Luther Strange) to a Senate seat after said AG delayed impeachment proceedings against the Bentley?  The "Blagojevich factor" was a lot more potent here than any Trump endorsement.

Thats true but the trump endorsement factor has helped candidates who were damaged win before remember how that scandal about Kemp came out right before the runoff and Kemp still won every county besides 2 I mean cagle was also a damaged candidate but yeah Moore is popular among AL gop like really popular

In the Mason-Dixon poll, Moore is also the only candidate with underwater favorability among Republicans, 29-34 with only 4% "not recognizing" him.  Byrne and Palmer remain unknown to over half the AL GOP primary electorate (53% and 57%, respectively) but have approvals at 25-2 and 18-1.  Moore leads now based solely on name recognition.

Moore would fall to Byrne in a primary runoff.

Hopefully the Turtle can exert some pressure on Trump to reconsider his harsh position against Sessions.

McConnell would probably prefer Byrne as a colleague.  Byrne will be Trump's nominal pick (like Strange was in 2017).

Remarkable how Sessions somehow did worse than Strange against Roy Moore this time around.

Interestingly the only Strange-Sessions county is Madison.

Well to be fair, Strange had Trump's endorsement.

IIRC, Strange only narrowly won Madison. By contrast, it was Sessions' only comfortable win, as he only narrowly won the other two counties.

Asking* an Alabaman: what gives Madison County that NeverTrump character, TEBP?

Not a native, but I have a lot of friends in Huntsville.  There's a big Federal workforce there (Redstone Arsenal, NASA, defense contractors, etc.), so the Republicans who live there tend to be the well-educated, "big gummit" neoconservative type.  It's basically a (way less diverse) mini-NOVA.
