Cuomo already has the Independence Party’s ballot line, so this conversation is moot regardless.

I wonder what a general election race between Cynthia Nixon(D), Andrew Cuomo (I), and Some Guy (R) would look like...
Something like this?

My inner politics junkie will take one Cuomo (D) vs. Nixon (WFP) vs. Molinaro (R) vs. DeFrancisco (C) vs. Sharpe (L) vs. Hawkins (G) vs. Giambra (I) vs. Holland (Reform) please.
Cuomo already has the Independence line.

The WFP voted 91-8 in favor of endorsing Nixon. Imagine if Zephyr got that kind of support four years ago.

The WFP has also endorsed Jumaane Williams for Lt. Gov.

Did Nixon have any impact on who they picked for LG?  Like did she say for them to endorse that guy or what?
I don’t think so, but I bet Nixon would rather be sharing the ticket with Williams than Hochul.

Here's another curveball: Jumaane Williams could still win the Democratic LG nomination. He's polling much better against Hochul than Nixon is against Cuomo. So Jumaane Williams could be the running mate of two different gubernatorial candidates. And, since Cuomo has the Independence line and will assuredly get the Women's Equality line, Cuomo could have two to three LG candidates, assuming the WEP re-nominates Hochul and who knows what the Independence Party will do.

WFP just haaad to endorse Nixon, so they managed to destroy themselves. Was it really worth it for Nixon's 35%?
The activists would’ve defected the party if they re-endorsed Cuomo. It barely survived endorsing Cuomo over Teachout in 2014.

If if the WFP re-endorsed Cuomo it would’ve just become another Cuomo shell Party like WEP and Independence.

New York state politics seems weird as f**k. Very entertaining.
New York's politics would be about as infuriating as Illinois' or New Jersey's if not for the fact that third parties only need to get 50,000 votes in a gubernatorial election to qualify for ballot access everywhere. This means that every few elections, someone will astroturf a new party or activists will start a new one, and after the election, it will be taken over by opportunists who do what they want with it.

Does anyone remember the STOP COMMON CORE Party?
It got 51,000 votes. Technically still has ballot access.

if Cuomo wins the Democratic primary she should drop out of the race. She could get enough votes in the general to allow a Republican to slip through.
At this point, anyone's better than Cuomo. Even DeFrancisco. It's not going to matter if there's a Republican Governor because the Assembly and possibly the Senate will both be in Democratic hands.

is there going to be a primary for the Working Families line or is written in stone she will be nominee unless Nixon withdraws?
The WFP's nominees are Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane Williams.

I wonder what the odds are he'll try and use the unions to create another new party to support him and siphon votes away from the WFP. New York Labor Party?
Already has the WEP, which was his backup plan if the WFP endorsed Teachout in 2014.

MFW Cynthia Nixon is campaigning against Mario Cuomo's son in New York by attacking "rich whites."

Once again she is not calling to punish rich whites. She is calling for no one to be punished for something that it's ridiculous is illegal.
Seriously, people are having the weirdest reactions to this.
It's almost as if her point is unimpeachable so they need to burn down their straw men

NYT: Cuomo Plans to Restore Voting Rights to Paroled Felons

And a perfect observation of this whole primary race:

Wow wow wow it's almost as if primarying politicians from the left produces good results even if the more progressive candidate loses wow.

The 2016 Presidential election would like a word. I'm not saying it was entirely Sanders' fault but it kind of contradicts that assertion. Otherwise I would probably agree with you in most cases.
Bernie didn't cost Hillary the election.

Nixon’s interview on Colbert:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_HohD8NVW3M

She comes across quite well, and her “Choose the better Nixon, not the worse Cuomo” punchline was entertaining.
I agree with this. She came off as competent and well versed on the issues. Cuomo would be foolish to underestimate her. I worry about her chances in a general election though.
Man, it's New York. There's no statewide Republican bench there.

Efforts to prevent people from voting are almost always placed at the feet of Republicans, but NY Democrats are in a league all their own.

11 months is a ridiculous amount of time. Who besides us nerds are even paying attention to electoral politics 11 months before a primary?

At the Maine Democratic Convention in 2016, I had a Bernie delegate tell me he was in favor of closed primaries with a 6-month cutoff. It was surprising coming from a Bernie delegate and I think even that 6 months is stretching it. I’m thinking 2 months top.

Lack of early voting and felon disenfranchisement are much bigger problems.
If Berniecrats really care about democracy they should start from there.

Why not fix both of those and also move up the registration deadline to election day? We have same-day registration in Minnesota and we happen to have the highest turnout rate in presidential elections in the country.
We have really high turnout too, and also have same-day registration.
