Any questions before I bring an end to this chapter and start the 1980 election?

Was the Vice President ultimately impeached or did he resign?
The impeachment trial is a major component of the next chapter. So, yes, stubborn Ronnie Thompson didn't resign.

What exactly is going to happen when Reagan loses?  Is the Democrat going to extend the New Deal Alignment another 20 years?
No spoilers.

I like how the Alignment philosophy was accepted in the forum as a scientific fact Tongue
I assume that the Reagan loss and RFK's Presidency will just move the country in a much more liberal direction.
Yes; "big government" isn't seen as a boogeyman as much as it is in real life. The successes of the Kennedy Administration and the failures of the Reagan Administration push the country in a liberal direction until the 21st Century. Think of it like how social democratic parties dominated the politics of Northern European countries for the latter half of the 20th Century and then tapered off in the new millennium. Generally, the American people want a more active government.

Because of the failures of Reagan, the Republican Party also becomes more moderate, similar to how the "New Democrats" took over the party in our 1990s.

I hope Askew and/or Graham are involved in the future of America, as well as Gary Hart
Gary Hart plays a big role in the 1980 election. You may see the other two in a Cabinet Smiley

"With the impeachment of Thompson forthcoming, the anger over the war and the economy and energy, it really wasn't a matter of if Reagan would be reelected. It was a matter of how much he would lose by...and who would defeat him. The Democratic Primary of 1980 might be one of my favorite periods of time in politics, in spite of how it turned out for me."

End Chapter Two

Rooting for generic idiosyncratic conservadem.
You'll like the GOP primary challenger.
