He was no more racist than anyone else of his time, aside from Wilson and his ilk. Judging people by modern standards is terrible.

He was actually quite a bit less racist than the norm of the day against both blacks and Asians.  He invited George Washington Carver to the White House, which really sent the racists into a tizzy, and he made sure the San Francisco schools integrated, at least the white and Asian.  Not perfect on racial issues, but much better than most of his contemporaries.

Great post.  It's almost like the Irish, the Polish, the Italians, the Hungarians, the Bulgarians, the Mexicans, the Philippians, German Catholics, Czechs, Native Americans, Cubans, and other assorted n****r races don't exist!

Most of those are ethnicities rather than races.
