A charismatic TV star Barney wins everywhere excepy of Utah (because Utah is weird) and the Deepest South, where people thought it's about Congressman Barney Frank.

As a side note, I think McGovern would have won with a non-senile VP.

No you don't think that. McGovern was unelectable and a wild-eyed lefty. He was the parties 4th or 5th choice because their candidates kept getting shot and driving girls into water.

Technically that would be true. Remember though the Republicans don't need Ohio with the new Electoral College.

Unless they are to win any state within the Blue Firewall (little chance because the political cultures of the states involved are hostile to right-wing Republicans), or any ot the states that Dubya won only once (Iowa, New Hampshire, and New Mexico), then the GOP still needs all of:

Texas
Florida
OhioNorth Carolina
Virginia
Georgia

-- and --
five of either Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, and South Carolina

Not that unpopular -- yet.

That is a long time in which a long recovery can set things straight. President Obama can lose Indiana even with a strong economy -- but not Ohio. So far, "Don't do something stupid" looks good enough to win. No tax hikes for the middle and working classes, no welfare cuts, and no support of corrupt entities is a huge improvement for enough Americans.

You can't be serious!

That would make the Republican majorities in the House and Senate the sorts that Obama runs against in a campaign analogous in many ways to Truman in 1948. Obama would win such a campaign by showing himself as the populist that he wasn't in 2008.

What on earth are you talking about? 215 and 50 still puts the democrats with a majority! Obama couldn't blame the GOP for anything related to controlling congress. That's just enough votes though to stop legislation and not be blamed for having a majority. Obama is too stubborn to stop pushing his agenda and would look at 2010 as a victory because his party still retained congress despite losing about 9 senate seats.
