Just a question here-

The death rate for people under 50 for this is under 1% and really only gets serious for people over 70.  So why isn't the solution here just to tell seniors or people with asthma or heart problems to stay home and get other people to deliver the their groceries and stuff for their own protection? As opposed to telling everyone to do that and pretty much shutting civilization down and crashing the world economy. If you're a young and healthy person the real risk of getting it would be to potentially transmit it to an old person or someone with respiratory issues who it could kill.

what are you talking about?! Not knowing that you have it means that you can unknowingly transmit it to people who are actually vulnerable - namely the elderly. How the hell does not knowing you have it reduce the death rate?

More people with the virus divided by the actual death count = smaller death rate percentage

Nah, the problem is that that makes it more transmissable, and the fatality rate being comparatively low (probably 1% or so) causes uninformed people such as yourself to not treat it seriously, and to behave in irresponsible ways that cause the virus to spread further. This then results in hospitals getting overwhelmed and the fatality rate going up to more like 3-5% or so. We would be better off if if had a higher fatality rate but was less transmissible (i.e. like SARS or MERS) because then we could actually contain it and uninformed people like you would take it more seriously and not spread it all over the place, making the problem worse.

Shutting down the global economy will result in catastrophic lessening and losses of lives - much more so than this virus.
