I think Europeans aversion to Bush is based primarily on religion. It is difficult for we atheists and agnostics not to think of the religious as a bit stupid/foolish/deluded, even if we don't openly admit it.
I think most foreigners are indifferent to whether US economic is slightly right (Bush) or slightly left (Kerry). And the war has made us hated abroad, but not distained as fools - for example Vietnam was unpopular abroad, but neither LBJ or Nixon were ever thought fools.
No, it is religion that is at the root of European's distain of Bush, Bush voters, and Americans in general.
Huh. Well now I thought it was they who always say the "religious right" is intolerant and bigoted and so forth. If that's true about the atheists and agnostics, then they wouldn't seem to be very open minded and tolerant themselves. Interesting.
