Is Romney pro-war or anti-war in this scenario? Part of Nixon's success was his ability to stake out a centrist stance on Vietnam while appealing to both the moderate and conservative factions of the Republican Party. I'm not sure a Romney/Chafee ticket has this same appeal.

I'll wager he doesn't. Wallace was the Southern candidate. Segregation now and forever, and that really wouldn't play well outside the South no matter who else was on the ticket.
