Great Idea! Smiley

A National Tragedy - justW353

A Third Choice - justW353

A New Era - justW353

A Dream Fulfilled - justW353

How about this...You change this thread to a listing thread (where people request TLs be listed) and then you create a new (locked) thread that has one post with all the TLs?

Thanks for the compliment! Smiley

The thing is, I don't want to say to anybody that their TL can't be listed.

So just list them all!

The problem is (you can see it with Fantasy Elections and Universes) threads get so cluttered that they're nearly impossible to navigate.

Point taken. How about this? If people want certain timelines posted, post a comment on this thread with a link, and I'll edit my first post to include them. This way, people who want to find somebody's TL quickly need look no further than my first comment.

That's another good option.

Not to be a prude, but you think we can alphabetize the list to make it more managable?

I like that idea...Mine would still be on top! Tongue

I was incredibly bored and decided to alphabetize it.  You can use it if you want.

I'm glad my Eliot Spitzer timeline made it!

That TL was what made me find this forum.  I searched Elliot Spitzer 2012, and found the TL.  I loved it.

You may have noticed the similarities between yours and the beginning of my first TL.  I got the idea of a wipeout of the Presidential Line of Succession from reading yours; I hope you don't mind.

Assuming it's still alphabetical, it's a good idea.

You could two lists:

Ongoing
Inactive

I don't like the idea of Complete or Incomplete, because who's to judge when a TL ends?  It just kind of sinks into obscurity over time.

If you wanted to do this, it would have to be in a new, separate topic.  I would rename this topic "Timeline Directory Requests/Update Requests".  It would be used to update the status of TLs and include new ones.  Then, have a new, locked thread called "The Timeline Directory" with only two posts, each containing the two separate lists.

Anyway, I don't think this Timeline Directory Idea is going to work. I tried putting in the rest of NiK's TLs, and apparently there's a limit of how many characters we can have in a post, and we seem to have exceeded that limit, so IDK, maybe people should just post their TLs to this thread.

As I recommended, make this into a request thread, and then make a new (locked) thread for the list.

As I told you, make this into a request thread, and then make a new (locked) thread for the list.

Even if this was a request thread, all the requested TLs would go over the character limit for the locked thread (assuming that the locked thread is only one post, but I'm not sure what you had in mind). justW353, would you like to moderate the locked thread then? You're more than welcome to do so. Smiley

You could put it in multiple posts...As in once you reach the character limit you continue the list in another post.

For some reason, my TLs never seem to gather a lot of interest (at least not comments).

As for that "shame", it's not bad.

I think it was flawed in structure; I barely created butterflies, and I think I could have been more creative.

If I wrote it now, I would have had the Cuban Missile Crisis butterflied out, and had the Bay of Pigs be a success.

Also, I had JFK die in November for no apparent reason. Tongue

Yeah, that's been my main problem in writing TLs.  I have trouble creating the butterflies.

In one TL, I had no Great Depression, a drastically different view on Southeast Asia (which was capitalist), and still the world was pretty much the same.  I was totally clueless as to how to reflect the butterflies.

I hope to change that with my most recent TL, but I don't know.

Anyways, besides JFK getting killed for no reason, I thought it was a lot better than other ones I've seen.

The butterfly effect.  The theory (well, it's proven science, but...) that all actions regardless of size can affect the future substantially.

For example, if Bobby Kennedy hadn't been assassinated, Barack Obama would never be President.  Bobby Kennedy would have been elected President in 1968, meaning Gerald Ford would never be President, meaning Jimmy Carter would never be President, meaning Ronald Reagan would never be President, meaning George H.W. Bush would never be President, meaning George W. Bush would never be President, meaning Barack Obama would never be President.

It's a very interesting and complex concept.  The ripples are usually far more subtle than that.
