Michigan has voted Republican in every election from 1860 up to 1928, with the exception of Teddy Roosevelt.  The party started here, so it pretty much follows, it had influence for quite some time.  Last time is was solid, probably 1998, All counties but Wayne voted for incumbent governor Republican John Engler over Dr. Kevorkian's lawyer Democrat Jeffrey Feiger.

My Republican friends state there is some argument as to where their party originated, with the predominant opinion being Ripon, Wisconsin.
