When it comes to campaignign against age, Representative William Hathaway run quite a negative age-based campaign aganist Margaret Chase-Smith in the 1972 U.S. Senate Election. He won by a fairly large margin as well, I think it was 53-46. That's quite a margin against a Senator who was viewed as fairly popular.
