The Republicans are going after Obama because he is a Democrat, and is therefore evil.  They don't care that Bush did the exact same thing; they're gonna attack the Democrat.

This, pretty much. That's also why they supported Bush's idea to expand Medicare but opposed Obama's idea to drop the Medicare age.
