ff. one of the last genuine hawks remaining in the democratic party after the vietnam war. also I admire him for his liberal domestic/economic policy positions.

Did he really oppose detente, though? I thought that his positions were similar to Reagan's on this issue. Of course, Jackson died before Gorbachev came to power, so we'll never know.
