Read scenario carefully:

Gore wins in 2000. McCain defeats Gore in 2004. The economy goes into a recession in mid-2007, with the financial crisis occuring in May 2008. The Democrats nominate Hillary Clinton against McCain. Unemployment is 8.1% on election day. McCain's running mate is Bill Owens and Hillary's is Mark Warner. How would this election turn out? Respond with maps please.

Katrina still occurs on the same date (which I believe is McCain's 69th birthday). However, McCain responds much quickly and more effeciently, and sends large amounts of aid (including food, clothes, and clean water) and also makes sure that the people living near the hurricane zone are evacuated quickly and to a safe location once the hurricane occurs. The American people generally approve of McCain's response to Hurricane Katrina.

This map seems about right, except I would give Colorado and New Hampshire to Clinton.

This map seems about right, except I would give Colorado and New Hampshire to Clinton.

with the presumably more moderate mccain, and the Vice President from Colorado?

Also, part of why Colorado went to the Democrats was Obama's dogged efforts to paint it 'blue' (or red in Atlas colors) it's plausible that Clinton would go more for a Southern strategy, especially with Warner on the ticket. all of these factors make me stand by giving CO to McCain.

You're probably right when it comes to Colorado. Still, I would give NH to Clinton since she would win NH if she won in a landslide as in this scenario.
